Geology

Province: Superior

Subprovince: Abitibi

Terrane: Wawa-Abitibi

Belt: Abitibi

Tectonic Assemblage: Stoughton-Roquemaure

Geological Age: Archean

Metamorphism Grade: Greenschist

Geology Comments

Feb 03, 2016 (C Salo) - Geological mapping indicates that bedrock in the area is largely glacial drift covered and consists mainly of weakly metamorphosed (greenschist or lower metamorphic grade) volcanic rocks of the (Archean) Stoughton-Roquemaure Group and mafic to ultramafic intrusive bodies. The occurrence is several kilometres north of the east striking Pipestone Fault Zone. An ultramafic body interpreted to be part of the Dundonald Sill and consisting mostly of massive dunite is underlain by felsic to intermediate volcanic and pyroclastic rocks.

Lithology

Lithology Data
Rock Type Rank Composition Texture Relationship
Intermediate flow breccia 1 Dacite Breccia Host
Peridotite 2 Peridotite, Dunite Serpentinized Host

Lithology Comments

Dec 07, 2005 (A Wilson) - Mineralization is hosted within the Dundonald Sill which consists mostly of massive dunite and is underlain by felsic to intermediate metavolcanic and pyroclastic rocks. Both limbs of a southwest plunging bedrock syncline were tested by diamond drilling. The north limb consists mainly of ultramafic rocks, mostly massive dunite which is underlain by felsic flows and pyroclastic rocks. The felsic flows and pyroclastic rocks are reported to be variably mineralized (sulfidic?).
