Geology

Province: Superior

Subprovince: Abitibi

Terrane: Wawa-Abitibi

Belt: Abitibi

Tectonic Assemblage: Stoughton-Roquemaure

Geological Age: Archean

Metamorphism Grade: Greenschist

Geology Comments

Dec 01, 2015 (C Salo) - Geological mapping indicates that bedrock in the area consists mainly of largely glacial drift covered weakly metamorphosed (greenschist or lower metamorphic facies) ultramafic to mafic volcanic rocks of the (Archean) Stoughton-Roquemaure Group which strike east northeast, dip steeply south, and face south. These volcanic rocks are south of the Porcupine-Destor Fault Zone and occupy part of the north limb of the east striking and east plunging Blake River Synclinorium.

Lithology

Lithology Data
Rock Type Rank Composition Texture Relationship
Vein 1 Quartz-Carbonate Stringers And Veinlets Host
Mafic lava flow-unsubdivided 2 Basalt Brecciated, Amygdaloidal Near
Ultramafic lava flow-unsubdivided 3 Komatiite Near
Intermediate lava flow-unsubdivided 4 Andesite Near
Feldspar Porphyry 5 Feldspar Intrudes

Lithology Comments

Dec 07, 2005 (A Wilson) - Diamond drilling intersected a sequence of pillowed and amygdaloidal basaltic to andesitic metavolcanics, komatiitic flows and mafic flow breccias. These rocks display carbonate alteration and are frequently injected by multiple quartz+/-carbonate veins. The sequence is intruded by narrow feldspar porphyry sills.

Mineralization Comments

Dec 07, 2005 (A Wilson) - Two sections of drill core returned assays of 0.11 g/t Au, one sample was a narrow quartz vein and the other was a section of porphyry. Other assays from the drill hole returned values ranging from nil to 0.06 g/t Au.

Dec 01, 2015 (C Salo) - Weakly pyritic basalt is reported to host quartz stringers and carbonate veinlets. Diamond drill core assays range from trace to 11.36 ounce of gold per ton.
