Geology

Province: Superior

Subprovince: Abitibi

Terrane: Wawa-Abitibi

Belt: Abitibi

Tectonic Assemblage: Stoughton-Roquemaure

Geological Age: Archean

Metamorphism Grade: Greenschist

Geology Comments

Nov 30, 2015 (C Salo) - Geological mapping indicates that bedrock near the occurrence is largely glacial drift covered. Bedrock consists mainly of weakly metamorphosed (greenschist or lower metamorphic facies) clastic sediments and intercalated volcanic rocks of the (Archean) Porcupine Group (to the south) and (weakly metamorphosed) subaqueously deposited ultramafic to mafic volcanic and volcanoclasitic rocks of the younger (Archean) Stoughton-Roquemaure Group (to the north). Spatially associated with (but not necessarily coinciding with) the Porcupine/Stoughton-Roquemaure Group contact is the Pipestone Fault Zone, a regional scale feature which along much of its length is oriented subparallel to the Porcupine-Destor Fault Zone. The Pipestone Fault Zone is characterized by the development of various talc, chlorite, carbonate, sericite, and serpentine schists; the development of various metasomatites; and the presence of various intrusive bodies. Diabase dikes of the (Proterozoic according to Heaman 1989) Matachewan swarm which generally strike north are known to occur in the area. A recent geophysical survey of Stock Township failed to detect any anomalous bedrock conductors which coincide with the occurrence location.

Lithology Comments

Nov 30, 2015 (A Wilson) - The diamond drill hole intersected a sequence of diorite and andesitic flows and serpentinized ultramafic flows. Narrow quartz veins carry elevated gold values.

Mineralization Comments

Nov 30, 2015 (A Wilson) - The best assay from the drill hole returned a value of 0.01 oz./t Au.

Nov 30, 2015 (C Salo) - Surveymin diamond drill hole no. ST-81-2 is reported to have yielded a 4 foot section of serpentinized peridotite which assayed 0.01 ounce of gold per ton. Asbestos was also noted to have been present in the drill core.
