Geology Comments

Apr 29, 2019 (C Salo) - Geological mapping (Carlson 1965; Jensen and Baker 1986; Gupta and Johnstone 1987; Johnstone and Steele 1989; Richard and McClenaghan 1985; Steele 1988; McClenaghan et al. 1988, 1987; assessment files, Resident Geologist's Office, Timmins) indicates that bedrock in the area is largely glacial drift covered and that it consists mainly of weakly metamorphosed (greenschist or lower metamorphic facies) felsic to ultramafic subaqueously deposited volcanic rocks of the (Archean) Stoughton-Roquemaure Group. Some ultramafic rocks in the area may be intrusive. Locally, the bedrock volcanic stratigraphy forms a southwest plunging syncline. A geophysical survey (OGS 1984) detected numerous anomalous bedrock conductors in the occurrence area.

Lithology Comments

Dec 07, 2005 (A Wilson) - Diamond drilling has intersected a sequence of periodite, pyroxenite and dunite. The periodote is highly serpentinized in some sections.

Mineralization Comments

Dec 07, 2005 (A Wilson) - Assays from this drill hole returned values of: 0.23 Ni and 0.50% Cr over 2 ft; 0.12% Ni and 0.43% Cr over 2 ft; 0.20% Ni and 0.17% Cr over 2 ft; 0.24% Ni and 0.58% Cr over 2 ft. Drill hole 12 drilled to the east of 13 intersected stringers of serpentine up to 1/16 inch. No asbestos assessment was made of drill hole 13.

Dec 07, 2005 (C Salo) - Vos (1971) described the asbestos mineralization as follows: '...asbestos fibre less than 1/16 inch was reported from 387 to 553 feet in serpentinized dunite from the core of [Dominion Gulf Co.] hole No.12. From 411-536 feet, there were 113 veinlets 1/16 inch in size. [Dominion gulf Co.] hole No.13 showed sparse fibre in serpentinized dunite from 773 feet to 808 feet. There were 13 veinlets at 1/16inch.' (p.55).
