Exploration History

Exploration activity by Homestake in 1991 focussed on a systematic follow-up of the gold intersection reported in DDH TU-1-3-70 by Hollinger Mines, and subsequent gold values by Esso Minerals (see MDI 42A14SE00029). Homestake DDH's T91-06, -07, and -08 were drilled along a straigraphic fence located approximately 500 metres to the southeast of the discovery hole and intersected numerous anomalous gold values as follow: T91-06: 413 ppb Au / 9.0 m (52.0 - 61.0 m); T91-07: 511 ppb Au / 8.5 m (40.0-48.5 m), 687 ppb Au / 5.5 m (151.0-156.5 m), and 1.976 g/t Au / 6.2 m [0.058 oz/ton Au / 20.3 feet] (176.0-182.2 m, includes 5.27 g/t Au / 1.0 m and 3.31 g/t Au / 1.0 m); T91-08: 390 ppb Au / 3.3 m (61.4-64.7 m), 1.83 g/t Au / 1.0 m (84.0-85.0 m), 1.29 g/t Au / 0.6 m (212.8-213.4 m), and 670 ppb Au / 3.0 m (224.6-227.6 m). The gold values in DDH T91-6 were associated with 3-5% pyrite, 1-5% arsenopyrite, and traces cpy. Similar associations were seen in hole T91-07, but there the arsenopyrite content increased locally to 7%. Arsenopyrite content drops down to the 2% range in hole T-91-08.
