Geology Comments

Mar 20, 2015 (A Wilson) - The occurrence lies within an area of strong deformation that trends eastward across the township. This is the same deformation zone that hosts the Joburke Gold Mine. Within the foliation there are a number of tight folds which are more common towards the north end of the zone and have affected the mineralized veins. The whole package has been offset along a series of minor east-west to northeast trending faults.

Lithology Comments

Mar 20, 2015 (A Wilson) - Mineralization occurs in a south-southeast-trending shear zone within carbonatized mafic metavolcanic rocks cut by abundant intermediate porphyry dikes. The mineralized zone consists of quartz-carbonate veining with disseminated pyrite and rarely chalcopyrite and galena.

Mineralization Comments

Mar 20, 2015 (A Wilson) - Erratic gold values as high as 0.528 oz/t over 1.2 m occur over narrow lenses of pyritic quartz-carbonate vein, separated by non-auriferous less-altered rock. The structure consists of a series of anastomosing veins and altered shears subparallel to the regional foliation. Gold tends to be concentrated in the noses of the folded vein stockworks. There appears to be a correlation between the amount of gold and the pyrite concentration. Other sulphides associated with the mineralization include chalcopyrite and some pyrrhotite. Galena occurs sporadically and is confined to trails of coarse grained muscovite. Grab samples by the OGS in 1992 returned values of 1.92 g/t Au from a sample from the muck pile.

Notes: On the west side (SanGold), the mafic volcanic rocks are schistose, dark green and still buggered. There are zones of ankerite and quartz-carbonate veins up to 40 cm in thickness. There seems to be boudinaged (digested?) quartz veins in the rock. There is an intermediate rock dyke subvertical striking at 102oN. Three drillhole collars are to the west (Hoodoo holes).
