Exploration History

1951 Asbestos was discovered by J.C. Bromley while prospecting in the vicinity of the Reeves Mine. 1951 The property was acquired by Johns Manville who started an exploration program in the following year. This exploration program continued for over twenty years consisted of geological mapping, magnetic, electromagnetic surveys and diamond drilling. Though this program was centred on the Reeves Mine outlying areas were also covered. This occurrence outcrops and was found by prospecting and geological mapping. 1991 Falconbridge carried out a magnetic and HL electromagnetic survey which covered the showing. In the following year a humus geochemical sampling program was carried out. 2005: Golden Chalice Resources Inc. – AEM, AMag. 2007: Golden Chalice Resources Inc. – AEM, AMag.

Geology Comments

Feb 23, 2016 (S Fumerton) - The occurrence is a couple of hundred metres south of the MacKeith or Keith - Penhorwood shear Zone, a major east - west trending structure.

Lithology

Lithology Data
Rock Type Rank Composition Texture Relationship
Ultramafic lava flow-unsubdivided 1 Komatiite Serpentinite Host

Lithology Comments

Feb 23, 2016 (S Fumerton) - The prospect is located in a komatiite flow in the nose of a fold. This flow is conformable with other Mg tholeiitic and calc-alkaline flows. Originally these ultramafic rocks were divided into early and late ultramafic intrusives by Milne 1972 but the occurrence of compositionally controlled spinifex texture was noted in settings now regarded as characteristic of layered komatiitic flows.

Mineralization Comments

Feb 23, 2016 (S Fumerton) - Magnetite and asbestos veining are present in an exposure of mineralogically layered tremolite - chlorite - serpentine komatiite. Asbestos is very locally developed and occurs as very thin thread veins but some fibre 4mm long fibre is present.

Feb 23, 2016 (A Wilson) - The asbestos is locally developed and occurs generally as very thin thread veins, but some 3/16 inch long fibre was recorded. No asbestos fibre was reported in a diamond drill hole drilled approximately 150 feet SW of the showing.
