Exploration History

1972 Domex flew an airborne geophysical survey of the area and over the next two year a diamond drill follow up program was undertaken which located the mineralization described here. 1980 Additional work was carried out by Domex which included a ground magnetic survey and a limited diamond drill program. 1987 Gold exploration in the area was under taken in a joint venture deal involving Marshall Minerals, Gail Resources, and Gold Vessel Resources. This included airborne geophysical surveys geological mapping, stripping and drilling.

Geology Comments

Dec 07, 2005 (A Wilson) - Sulphide iron formations are east-northeast striking in the area west of the Groundhog River. The iron formaiton is intercalated with mafic and ultramafic volcanic rocks and consists of banded recrystallized chert and graphitic argillite with sulphide-rich sections containing layers of massive to disseminated sulphides.

Lithology

Lithology Data
Rock Type Rank Composition Texture Relationship
Sulphide Ironstone 1 Sulphide Facies Banded Iron Formation Host
Peridotite 2 Peridotite Near
Mafic lava flow-unsubdivided 3 Near

Lithology Comments

Dec 07, 2005 (S Fumerton) - Mineralization is hosted in a banded pyritic iron formation associated with black graphitic argillite beds. The iron formation occurs in a mafic volcanic sequence together with some ultramafic peridotites. The mafic volcanics are carbonatized and chloritized whereas the ultramafics are serpentinized.

Mineralization Comments

Dec 07, 2005 (S Fumerton) - Within the sulphide iron formations, which typically consists of thin pyrite seams of massive pyrite or widespread disseminations of pyrite, there are locally some stringers and disseminated grains of sphalerite together with specks of chalcopyrite.

Apr 07, 2015 (A Wilson) - The best assays associated with this drillhole are 0.191% Ni and 0.05% Cu over 15 ft; 1.5% Zn and 0.06% Cu over 6.7 ft (T-249).
