Point Location Description: The point located by the GPS is an old drill set-up marked by fire wood and lumber.

Location Method: Field Visit with GPS

Access Description: The occurrence is located approximately 2 km southwest of the town of Foleyet and south of the Highway. Access to within several hundred metres is possible using old bush trails extending south from Highway 101. At the abandoned quarry on the old highway, now replaced by a new section of highway, a drivable trail leads south then east then south again. The intersection of this trail with another passable trail heading north, is about 200m west of the set up for Hudbay's drill hole F82-5.

Exploration History

1964: Keevil Mining Group Ltd did the earliest reported work in the area and this consisted of an airborne EM survey with follow-up geological mapping and ground geophysical work. In 1965 diamond drilling east of the present occurrence intersected a pyrrhotitic zone in graphitic slates with minor sphalerite and chalcopyrite. 1980: Hudbay Mining reflew the felsic metavolcanics in the area with an Input and magnetic survey and carried out ground geophysical follow up on selected anomalies. Some of these anomalies were drill tested in 1982. Hole F82-5 intersected some zinc mineralization. 1983: Chevron Minerals carried out a large Pulse EM and magnetic survey on the property after assuming all of Hudbay Mining's properties and drilled two short holes. 1992: Noranda Exploration restaked the ground, cut a new grid and have recompiled the data, ground geophysics.

Lithology Comments

Dec 07, 2005 (S Fumerton) - Hole F82-5 is located in a belt of felsic rocks trending northwest. Outcrops are sparse in the area, though those near the set up are a pale ivory colour with some small quartz stringers. These felsic outcrops display some sericitic alteration near the set up and also have silicification developed in small patches. The Hashimoto Alteration Index for these outcrops is high. Hole F82-5 intersected a series of talc-carbonate chlorite - carbonate rocks at the top with local ankeritic and brecciated zones. These rocks only have sparsely disseminated pyrite. The lower part of the hole intersected rhyolitic lapilli tuffs which are sericitized and silicified.

Mineralization Comments

Dec 07, 2005 (S Fumerton) - Near the mineralized intersection wispy trails of pyrite occur parallel to the foliation. These give way to massive blebs of pyrite which appear to be brecciated in-situ and are hosted in a fragment supported phase. Associated with these massive blebs are some euhedral pyrite and marcasite grains. Next to this is a silicified graphitic phase which contains the reported mineralization and this in turn is adjacent to a narrow banded pyritic zone. The whole sequence is less than 7m thick. Note similar occurrences:- 42B/01W/004, 42B/01W/006.

Dec 07, 2005 (A Wilson) - Assays returned values of 0.6% Zn.

Site Visit Information

Date: May 28, 1992

Geologist: S Fumerton

Notes: The set up was located in low swampy ground which has been cut over and now overgrown with 2m alders. All that is left are some pieces of lumber and a pile of fire wood. The true location is some 400m northeast of position plotted on the OGS preliminary Map of Foleyet Twp by John Ayer.
