Geology Comments

Sep 09, 2013 (A Wilson) - The Colborne-Stephenson Lakes Deformation Zone (SCDZ) is located in southern Rennie township where it is defined by a 300 m wide zone of ductile shearing and moderately to strongly deformed rocks. The CSDZ can be traced for at least 4 km, is open to the east, and has not been traced westward of the Rennie Lake Stock which may truncate or deflect the zone. The SCDZ is localized in felsic to intermediate pyroclastic rocks with minor mafic metavolcanic intercalations. Within the SCDZ there are several ductlie shear zones where the rocks are deformed to sericite-chlorite-quartz-carbonate schists. These zones trend from 85 to 110 degrees and range in width from less than 1 m to 10 m.

Lithology

Rock Type Rank Composition Texture Relationship
Amphibolite 1 Amphibolite/Gabbro Host
Vein 2 Quartz Host
Quartz-Feldspar Porphyry 3 Quartz-Feldspar Footwall

Lithology Comments

Sep 09, 2013 (A Wilson) - The occurrence consists of a quartz vein lying along the contact between the greenstone and porphyry. The mafic metavolcanic is sheared and slightly silicified. The quartz is mostly barren with some rusty or bluish coloured streaks. The quartz vein is west-striking. The vein is 15 ft wide and strikes 085º with a dip of 50º to the south. Internal fractures are 085 º, 135 º and 030 º. The wall rock consists of sheared andesite on both sides of the vein.

Mineralization Comments

Sep 09, 2013 (A Wilson) - Argentite was reported in a one inch thick mineralized seam on the footwall of the vein. No commercial gold values have been recovered from the vein. The best assay from channel sampling completed in 1986 was 0.001 oz/t Au. Diamond drilling completed by Camchib in 1996 returned assays of 0.03 g/t Au over 4 ft. in quartz-feldspar porphyry. A grab sample collected from the vein in 1960 returned an assay of 0.04 oz/t Au. A grab sample taken from the footwall in 1960 returned an assay o. 0.5 oz/t Ag.
