Geology Comments

Dec 07, 2005 (A Wilson) - The McKewen Lake Deformation Zone (MLDZ) is a 1.5 km wide, SE-trending zone of strongly deformed mafic to intermediate and felsic to intermediate metavolcanic rocks, which can be traced from McKewen Lake in the northern part of West Township, southeastwards to the northwestern corner of Stover Township. Discrete 120-130 degree trending ductile shear zones are common throughout the MLDZ, but only a small number of shear zones are greater than 1 m.

Lithology Comments

Aug 19, 2013 (A Wilson) - The trondhjemite/tonalite is medium-grained, light grey to pinkish, equigranular, crystalline intrusive. It is composed of equal parts feldspar and quartz with 5-10% biotite. Minor amounts of sphene are note in drill core. The quartz veins are sugary in nature. Sulphides occur as irregular veinlets, fracture-coatings and patches. The vein is approximately 30 ft long and is 2 feet wide at the east end and at the west end the vein narrows to a few inches. The vein is sinuous, with an average strike of a bout N50E with a dip of 50ºS. The vein is cut by two southeasterly striking shear zones about 8 feet apart.

Mineralization Comments

Aug 19, 2013 (A Wilson) - Samples collected by H. Kenty in 1975 returned assays of 0.17 oz/t Au, 8.44 oz/t Ag; 0.47 oz/t Au, 5.08 oz/t Ag; 1.65 oz/t Au, 26.36 oz/t Ag; 0.06 oz/t Au, 1.10 oz/t Ag;1.01 oz/t Au and 19.6 oz/t Ag. The best intersection obtained by Rengold was 0.12 oz/t Au and 0.52 oz/t Ag. A grab sample collected at the site by Carbrew Exploration returned an asay of 0.46% Pb, 0.01% Cu and 0.03% Zn, 0.74 oz/t au and 6.92 oz/t Ag. A second grab sample collected by Carbrew returned an assay of 5.12 oz/t Au and 65.7 oz/t Ag. Diamond drilling completed by Ateba in 1988 intersected 0.026 oz/t Au over 1.7 ft; 0.30 oz/t Au over 1 ft; 0.04 oz/t Au over 1.9 ft;0.36 oz/t Au over 35.7 ft G. Lucuik obtained an assay of 0.405 oz/t Au over 2 feet from this occurrence in 1997. The sulphides comprise pyrite, with 1-3% chalcopyrite and lesser galena. Rare grains of sphalerite, stibnite and molybdenite have been noted in drill core. A 2 pound sample collected by Carbrew in 1978 assayed 2.70 oz/t Au, 48.4 oz/t Ag, 2.37% Cu, 0.96% Zn, 0.51% Zn, 0.18% Te and <0.01 oz/t Pt.
