Geology Comments

Dec 07, 2005 (A Wilson) - The McKewen Lake Deformation Zone (MLDZ) is a 1.5 km wide, SE-trending zone of strongly deformed mafic to intermediate and felsic to intermediate metavolcanic rocks, which can be traced from McKewen Lake in the northern part of West Township, southeastwards to the northwestern corner of Stover Township. Discrete 120-130 degree trending ductile shear zones are common throughout the MLDZ, but only a small number of shear zones are greater than 1 m.

Lithology Comments

Aug 19, 2013 (A Wilson) - The main vein occurs within a heavily sheared and silicified trondhjemite. The vein shows a wide zone of silicification on either side. The main showing is approximately 30 ft long and consists of a quartz vein striking northerly and dippping about 45º E. The vein is up to 4 feet in width. At the north end of the exposure the wein is approximately 10 feet wide indicating a true thickness of about 7 feet.
