Geology Comments

Dec 07, 2005 (A Wilson) - The Baltimore Lake Deformation Zone (BLDZ) is located in northwestern Stover Township where it is defined by by a 1.2 km wide, SE-trending zone of folding, transposition and shearing. The BLDZ can be traced fro approximately 6 km southeastward across Stover Township. The BLDZ is characterized by rootless isoclinal folds of bedding/schistosity, sinistral and dextral shear folds, transposition and ductile shear zones axial planr to the folds.

Lithology

Lithology Data
Rock Type Rank Composition Texture Relationship
Mafic lava flow-unsubdivided 1 Sheared Host
Ironstone-unsubdivided 2 Sheared Near

Lithology Comments

Aug 19, 2013 (A Wilson) - The occurrence is described as consisting of stringers and veins of quartz within sheared mafic to intermediate metavolcanic rocks. The shear zone strikes N60W and dips 70º W. This showing is presumed to be the eastward extension of the Pileggi East vein. Numerous discontinuous northwest trending bands of magnetite-quartz iron formation up to 30 feet in width also have been observed in the area. Narrow veins of iron formation (up to 2 feet) were intersected in DDH No. 4. The iron formation is interbedded with greenstone.

Mineralization Comments

Aug 19, 2013 (A Wilson) - A chip sample taken by Sylvanite Gold Mines in 1944 returned an assay of 1.20 dwt Au across 2 feet. No other elevated values were obtained. A grab sample collected by Sylvanite returned 0.40 dwt Au. A 7 foot section of quartz-veined greenstone in DDH 4 returned 0.20 dwt Au (0.3113 g/t).
