Geology Comments

Dec 07, 2005 (A Wilson) - Supracrustal rocks in the immediate Goudreau-Lochalsh district consist of cycle 2 felsic to intermediate, pyroclastic metavolcanics which are capped by pyrite-bearing ironstone. To the north are pillowed , massive and schistose, mafic to intermediate metavolcanics and minor intercalations of mafic pyroclastic rocks of cycle 3. Several medium to coarse grained quartz dioritie to dioritie sills and/or dikes intrude all of the metavolcanic rocks. Along the northern margin of the supracrustal sequence, separating cycle 3 mafic metavolcanic rocks from the external granitoids, are thinly-bedded metasedimentary rocks with iminor intercalations of chert-magnetite ironstone. The Maskinonge Lake Fault lies adjacent to the showing. Rocks along this fault structure are locally brecciated and silicified and contain anomalous gold values. The gold mineralization found with this fault may occur within a subparallel fault or shear to the main break.

Lithology Comments

Dec 07, 2005 (A Wilson) - All of the islands on Swanson Lake are described as composed of medium to coarse-grained gabbroic flows and medium-grained masic tuffs. All rocks are strongly magnetic and according to the 1972 field notes taken by R. Rupert, will deflect a compass needle up to 90 degrees.

Mineralization Comments

Dec 07, 2005 (A Wilson) - A sketch by Leitch Gold Mines shows gold values of $1.05, $0.70 and $1.40 in the vicinity of the anomaly. Grab samples collected in 1983 by International Corona returned disappointing values.
