Geology Comments

Dec 07, 2005 (A Wilson) - The occurrence lies within the western extension of the Cradle Lake Deformation Zone. This domain is a ductile-brittle zone of subparalel, dextral oblique-slip high-strain zones developed within strongly altered and deformed felsic to intermediate metavolcanic rocks. The NNW Herman Lake Fault lies just to the east of the occurrence.

Lithology

Lithology Data
Rock Type Rank Composition Texture Relationship
Mafic lava flow-unsubdivided 1 Tuff Sheared Host
Schist-Unsubdivided 2 Metasediment Host

Lithology Comments

Dec 07, 2005 (A Wilson) - The showing is described as a banded silica replacement of what appears to be a slate or tuff bed. This zone occurs in and parallel to a belt of sheared tuffs, fragmentals and thin flows. The rocks surrounding Slate Lake were mapped by the OGS as clastic metasediments (wacke and lithic wacke) and chlorite schist. The silicified zone is 5 - 15 feet wide and averages 10 feet for the 140 feet length of the shear. Several small quartz stringers fill fractures within the zone.
