Geology Comments

Dec 07, 2005 (A Wilson) - Supracrustal rocks in the immediate Goudreau-Lochalsh district consist of cycle 2 felsic to intermediate, pyroclastic metavolcanics which are capped by pyrite-bearing ironstone. To the north are pillowed , massive and schistose, mafic to intermediate metavolcanics and minor intercalations of mafic pyroclastic rocks of cycle 3. Several medium to coarse grained quartz dioritie to dioritie sills and/or dikes intrude all of the metavolcanic rocks. Along the northern margin of the supracrustal sequence, separating cycle 3 mafic metavolcanic rocks from the external granitoids, are thinly-bedded metasedimentary rocks with iminor intercalations of chert-magnetite ironstone.

Lithology Comments

Dec 07, 2005 (A Wilson) - The drill hole was collared in an area where numerous gossan stained boulders were observed on the lakeshore. Diamond drilling by Umex intersected a sequence of mafic to intermediate and intermediate to felsic tuffs and flows. A series of disseminated to massive stringers of pyrrhotite, minor pyrite, chalcopyrite and sphalerilte were reported within the intermediate to felsic metavolcanic rocks. This unit contained an estimated 10-15% sulphides.
