Dec 07, 2005 (A Wilson) - The Rand No. 2 is one of the 32 segments of the Michipicoten Iron Fomration. It consists of two parallel bands of iron formation (north or tunnel and the south) separated by about 170m. The formation is bounded on the east by the McVeigh Creek Fault and on the west by a diabase-filled fault west of Round Lake. A narrow band of intermediate to felsic metavolcanic rocks occurs below the north band the southern band lies direcly on a thick section of intermediate to felsic metavolcanics. The iron formation has siderite at its stratigraphic bottom fowed by pyrite and chert up section. The north band is interepreted to have been thrust up over the south band due to low angle strike-slip faulting.
