Exploration History

1937: discovery by local unnamed prospector. 1939: property purchased by Peter Edward. Small, 5-ton, Gibson mill erected on property to treat ore from pits. Several small batches of concentrate produced and one 10-ton bulk sample assaying 0.3015 oz/t Au shipped to Noranda. In 1941, 2 ddh completed on property. 1958: Peter Rock Mining Company Ltd. controlled the property. By this time 34 trenches had been dug along a shear on the property. 1964: Hollinger Gold Mines optioned the property. The completed ground geophysical surveys on the property and in 1965 drilled 20 ddh (4534.6 ft total). 1982: Canamax Resources Limited complted surface sampling and airborne geophysics on the property. In 1983 4 ddh (273 m) were completed on the property.

Geology Comments

Dec 07, 2005 (A Wilson) - The occurrence lies within the intermediate to mafic metavolcanic rocks in the lower to middle part of the 2750 Ma cycle of volcanism. Numerous small, irregular quartz feldspar porphyry intrusions are locally present and mark the outer limites of granitic magmatism related to the Hawk Lake Granitic Complex. South of Edwards Lake, two barren pyrite horizons are found in schistose intermdeiate to mafic metavolcanic rocks intruded by quartz-feldspar porphyry. Assay values at the site appear to have a lcose assoication with sulphide facies iron formation.

Lithology Comments

Dec 07, 2005 (A Wilson) - The occurrence is hosted within a sulphide facies iron formation within intermediate to mafic metavolcanic rocks. These rocks are massive and locally schistose. Local thin interbeds of tuff, feldspar crystal tuff and quartz-feldspar crystal tuff are present. The rocks at the showing are schistose, cut by quartz veins and locally massive pyrite and pyrrhotite is present. The iron formation consists of a thin unit of chert and sulphide facies within a shear zone. The iron formation may be a series of lenses, perhaps boudinaged.

Mineralization Comments

Dec 07, 2005 (A Wilson) - The following assay results were obtained by the OGS from grab samples taken in 1984: 0.03 oz/T Au in sugary quartz containing up to 30% pyrite, 0.19 oz/t Au from sugary quartz with 20-60% pyrite, 0.39 oz/t Au from sugary quartz with 40-50% pyrite. Tthe best values from the surrounding mafic to intermediate rocks was 0.07 oz/t Au from a mafic tuff containing 10-15% pyrite. Hollinger Consolidated obtained the following assay values from diamond drill core: 3.09 oz/t Au and 0.59 oz/t Ag over 1.5 feet (ddh 1) and 0.24 oz/t Au and 1.46 oz/t Ag over 3 feet (ddh 8). The property is reported to have produced 28 ounces of gold from 46 tons of ore. A 10-ton bulk sample with an average grade of 0.3015 oz/t Au was taken from the site sometime between 1929 and 1941. A property examination by Hollinger reported that the shear zone contained pyrite, pyrrhotite, galena, sphalerite and arsenopyrite. No visible gold has been reported on the property.

Alteration Comments

Dec 07, 2005 (A Wilson) - The rocks at the occurrence are not as carbonate-altered as the metavolcanic and metasedimentary rocks found elsewhere in the township.
