Location Method: Conversion from MDI

Access Description: The iron formations are located north of Eccles Lake (local name) in the southwest corner of the township. They are accessible by boat by travelling north on the Magpie River Reservoir from the Steephill Falls Dam for a distance of approximately 13 km and then by overland traverse 3 km to the east to Eccles Lake.

Geology Comments

Dec 07, 2005 (A Wilson) - The iron formation occurs at the interface between intermediate to felsic and mafic to intermediate metavolcanics. This occurrence appears to be a stacked, repetitive sequence that has been affected by low-angle oblique or strike-slip faulting.

Dec 07, 2005 (A Wilson) - The iron formation consists of banded chert and magnetite and represents only the extreme top of a typical Michipicoten iron formation.
