Geology Comments

Dec 07, 2005 (A Wilson) - This iron range has no topographic expression. It lies at the contact between the intermediate to felsic metavolcanic rocks of cycle one with overlying intermediate to mafic metavolcanics of cycle two. The southwest end of the Reau-Mary Lakes Iron Range likely coreelates with the north end of the Cline Lake iron range. The iron range consists of a series of blocks or lenses of Michipicoten-type iron formation. It appears as though the stratigraphy is north facing, although some south facing data has been locally obtained.

Lithology Comments

Dec 07, 2005 (A Wilson) - The hanging wall mafic to intermedicate metavolcanics are sheared, pillowed and strongly carbonate altered. The foot wall intermediate to felsic metavolcanics are sheared and massive in the vicinity of Reau Lake. On Mary lake, the rokcs consist of schistose massive flows, lapilli tuff, feldspar crystal tuff and volcanic breccia. Sericite schists, in part sheared tuffs, are also present. Chloritoid alteration is pervasive on the south side of Reau Lake. These rocks appear to mark the northern limit of the chloritoid alteration. The iron formation observed in the middle of Reau Lake is deeply weathered siderite with disseminated pyrite. Some pyrite is concretionary.

Alteration Comments

Dec 07, 2005 (A Wilson) - Chloritoid porphyroblasts occur in rocks of both felsic and mafic composition on the south shore of Reau Lake. These chloritoid bearing rocks appear to mark the northern limit of a broad zone of chloritoid alteration throughout NE Corbiere Township.
