Geology Comments

Dec 07, 2005 (A Wilson) - The Reynolds Iron Range is one of 32 iron ranges that form the Michipicoten iron formation. The range strikes southeasterly from the fault east of Godon Lake where it joins with the Godon lake Iron Range. The range crosses Leclaire township and passes into the northeast corner of Musquash Township where it tapers out near the east boundary of the township. The southeast end of this iron range most likely correlates with the west end of the West Brooks Iron Range in Corbiere Township. There is more than one iron formation unit between Punk and Eva lakes and this distribution has been interpreted to be the result of strike-slip movement and stacking of a once continuous iron formation unit prior to folding. The movement has obliterated the original stratigraphy in this area. The Reynold Iron Range may represent the upper facies of iron formation separated by metavolcanic rocks from its lower facies.

Lithology Comments

Dec 07, 2005 (A Wilson) - The iron formation consists of iron stained banded chert with minor magnetite. It has been described as consisting of granular white quartz and some interbedded iron oxides. Pyrite and pyrrhotite have been observed in the vicinity of Reynolds Lake and a siderite lens has been observed in the vicinity of Eva Lake. The iron range faces southwest.

Mineralization Comments

Dec 07, 2005 (A Wilson) - The sulphide and siliceous siderite content increase toward the east. A lens of siderite was discovered during diamond drilling. It is approximately 5-10 feet thick and 350 feet long gave an analysis of 31.1% Fe, 3.5 % Si 0.296% S.
