Geology Comments

Dec 07, 2005 (A Wilson) - The occurrence lies within the Hawk Assemblage of the Michipicoten greenstone belt. These rocks are the oldest within the Michipicoten greenstone belt and consist of basaltic to ultramafic flows and intrusives.

Lithology

Lithology Data
Rock Type Rank Composition Texture Relationship
Quartz-Feldspar Porphyry 1 Quartz-Feldspar Adjacent
Mafic massive flow 2 Basalt Massive, Vesiculated Adjacent
Vein 3 Quartz-Calcite Host

Lithology Comments

Dec 07, 2005 (A Wilson) - The showing consists of three veins (Shaft Vein, Fissure Vein, Galena Vein) lying within a shear zone. The shearing appears to cross the greenstone-porphyry contact. The shearing is oblique to the contact. The mafic metavolcanic rock vary in texture from fine-grained to medium grained massive rocks. The mafice metavolcanics have been sheared to a chlorite schist in the vicinity of the showing.

Mineralization Comments

Dec 07, 2005 (A Wilson) - The Shaft Vein reportedly hosts visible gold and galena. Grab samples by the OGS in 1980 returned values of 0.73 oz/t Au and a sample taken in 1992 returned values of 3.64 oz/t Au. The Fissure Vein consists of massive quartz and contains minor pyrite. The best assays from this vein returned 0.23 oz/t Au from a grab sample in 1980. Grab samples from the Galena Vein returned 0.30 oz/t Au.
