Geology Comments

Dec 07, 2005 (A Wilson) - The occurrence lies close to the southern contact between the Michipicoten greenstone belt and the Hawk Lake intrusive complex. Gold mineralization is associated with quartz veins and stringer wining ENE trending shears. the shears are highly deformed and display a silicified, ankeritized and sericitized core flanked by strongly carbonated wall rocks.

Lithology

Lithology Data
Rock Type Rank Composition Texture Relationship
Diorite 1 Diorite Hanging Wall
Quartz Porphyry 2 Quartz-Porphyry Adjacent
Intermediate Tuff 3 Tuff, Sheared Adjacent

Lithology Comments

Dec 07, 2005 (A Wilson) - The vein occurs in felsic to intermediate metavolcanic rocks and gabbroic rocks that have been extensively sheared. The porphyry is coarse grained and is closely associated with the highest gold values in the vein system.
