Dec 07, 2005 (A Wilson) - The Ruth Iron Range is one of the 32 segments of iron formation that make up the Michipicoten iron formation. It is bounded by theBauldry Lake Fault on the west and the Goetz Lake Fault on the east. It strikes northeast, has a subvertical dip, faces northwest and separates the first and second volcanic cycle. The iron range is cut in several places by low angle oblique faults which locally greatly thin the iron range. These faults have faulted out the overlying intermediate to felsic metavolcanic rocks so that the iron formation lies in direct contact with the clastic metasedimentary rocks. The Ruth is the faulted estern extension of the Lucy Iron Range. The Goetz Lake fault offsets the eastern extension of the Ruth Iron Range into Corbiere Township, where it becomes the Josephine Iron Range. The Ruth and the Lucy Iron Formation are two distinct iron formation segments but reporting on the two ranges is often combined. The siderite zone is separated into 2 segments by faulting. The portion west of the railway is called the Ruth I and that east of the railway is the Ruth II.

Dec 07, 2005 (A Wilson) - The Ruth Iron formatio consists of a thick sequence of banded chert-wacke iron formation underlain by a thinner sequence of carbonate-facies iron formation. Three separate ore bodies have been defined within the carbonate facies.
