Geology Comments

Dec 07, 2005 (A Wilson) - The workings of the mine were established within the Hawk Lake Granitic Complex.

Lithology Data
Rock Type Rank Composition Texture Relationship
Granodiorite 1 Host
Vein 2 Host

Lithology Comments

Dec 07, 2005 (A Wilson) - Molybdenite is reported in thin fractures/seams within the host rock. The host rock type is a light pink medium to coarse-grained granodiorite to quartz monzonite phase of the Hawk Lake Granitic Complex. The granodiorite becomes progressively more porphyritic away from the mine site. Fine grained mafic metvolcanics are apparent within the muck pile at the site, and were mapped as an anastomosing lamprophyre by Regnery Metals. It is likely that these rocks are fine-grained metavolcanic rafts within the intrusion.

Mineralization Comments

Dec 07, 2005 (A Wilson) - Molybdenite occurs as tiny flakes along fractures in the mafic metavolcanics and, to a lesser degree, within the granitic rocks. Pyrite and chalcopyrite are sometimes observed along with the molybdenite. Grab samples taken by the OGS of the heavily sulphidized vein material returned values of 8.275% Cu and 205 ppm Mo, and 0.01 oz/t Au, 13.2% Cu and 730 ppm Mo. Beryllium was reported in the assays of the early workers, but has been disputed by more modern analyses. Underground sampling returned values up to 0.11% Mo over 4.6 ft.
