Geology Comments

Dec 07, 2005 (A Wilson) - The Josephine West extension forms a prominent ridge between Goetz Lake and Parks Lake. The east end of the range merges with the Josephine Iron Range. It is abruptly terminated at the west end by the Goetz Lake Fault. On the north side there is a thin intermediate to mafic metavolcanic unit in contact with clastic metasediments. Below the iron range intermediate to felsic tuffs and crystal tuffs are common. The stratigraphy faces north.

Siltstone 2 Wacke Hanging Wall
Intermediate Tuff 3 Intermediate To Felsic Tuff Footwall

Lithology Comments

Dec 07, 2005 (A Wilson) - The iron formation is massive to thinly laminated chert with heavy iron staining. In places it is brecciated and cemented with secondary iron oxide. The hanging wall metasediments (wackes) are in direct contact with the iron formation because of extensive faulting along the Magpie River Fault. The footwall felsic to intermediate tuffs and crystal tuffs are very schistose and pervasively soaked with ankerite.
