Location Method: AMIS Site Visit

Access Description: The property is accessible by boat from Wawa. The occurrence is located approximately 5 km from Wawa on Wawa Lake. The occurrence is a short (500 m) traverse from the shoreline. Poor going along a bush trail on the north shore of Wawa Lake past Wood Lake. There the trail ends and a traverse must be made to Mammoth Lake.



Exploration History

1927: G. Christie and W. Soulier - discovery. 1927: Dome Mines Ltd. - trenching, sampling 3 ddh (500 ft). 1928-29: Mammoth Metals Ltd. - 2 shafts sunk, inclined shaft to 65 feet and 165 feet of drifting completed. 1967: Algoma Ore Properties - mapping, magnetometer and EM surveys.

Geology Comments

Dec 07, 2005 (A Wilson) - The occurrence lies close to the contact between a quartz diorite (mafic intrusive) and an intermediate to felsic metavolcanic (rhyolite). The quartz diorite is a subvolcanic intrusive.

Lithology Comments

Dec 07, 2005 (A Wilson) - The vein lies within a shear zone within a quartz diorite. The quartz vein is heavily mineralized with galena, sphalerite and arsenopyrite. The occurrence consists of at least three, roughly parallel veins.

Jan 09, 2016 (A Wilson) - Grab samples have returned varied assays. Grab samples from the quartz vein have retuned values ranging from 5.2 oz./t Ag and 6.38% Pb to 23.8 oz./t Ag and 51.95% Pb.
