Geology Comments

Jan 09, 2016 (A Wilson) - The Mildred iron range occurs on the north flank of an anticlinal structure in cycle one intermediate to felsic metavolcanic rocks. The iron formation pinches and swells and has been attenuated during folding. The dominant facing direction of this area is south, however on the basis of lithologic distribution when compared with less deformed areas, it should face north. The Mildred iron range is considered to be the western extension of the Helen iron range, that has been faulted.

Lithology

Lithology Data
Rock Type Rank Composition Texture Relationship
Carbonate Ironstone 1 Carbonate Host
Felsic Tuff 2 Felsic To Intermediate Tuff Hanging Wall
Intermediate lava flow-unsubdivided 3 Intermediate To Mafic Footwall
Quartz-Feldspar Porphyry 4 Quartz-Feldspar Adjacent

Lithology Comments

Dec 07, 2005 (A Wilson) - The iron formation reportedly consists of a banded siliceous member on the south side with a carbonate rich facies on the north side. The host rocks are reportedly brecciated.
