Point Location Description: Iron formation in NE corner of Gros Cap I.R.

Location Method: Data Compilation

Access Description: The site is accessible via Highway 17 North to a road located approximately 1 km south of BlackTrout Lake. Drive west for approximately 1.3 km. The iron formation is situated in the northeast corner of the Gros Cap reserve.

1962: Indian and Northern Affairs - metallurgical testing. 1979: Aerodat - airborne geophysics 1982: Indian Minerals East - ground geophysical survey.

Dec 07, 2005 (A Wilson) - The iron formation is composed of banded magnetite-chert facies iron formation. It is interbedded with intermediate to felsic metavolcanic rocks and narrow gabbroic intrusions.

Mineralization Comments

Dec 07, 2005 (A Wilson) - The 70 lb shipment analysed for the First Nation assayed 17.83% Fe, 3.61% S, 0.06% Ph, 0.06% TiO and 2.02% As. Magnetic concentration of the sample produced a concentrate which assayed 66.1% Fe, 1.2% S and 0.02% Ph.
