Lithology Comments

Dec 07, 2005 (A Wilson) - West of a NW trending diabase dike, the iron formatin consists of sugary, dark-grey to rusty chert and rusty weathering siderite members. The chert member is 18-50 m thick with an average thickness of 40 m with continuous bands of siliceous magnetite and siderite. The siderite member lies south of the chert member and probably stratigraphically below it. East of the diabase kike, the predominant form of iron formation is grey to brown siderite with local bands and patches of chert and scattered grains of pyrrhotite, pyrite and magnetite. The iron formation encloses a dominantly intermediate to felsic metavolcanic rock sequence which occupies the core to the Betty-Syenit Lake antilcine.

Notes: The iron formation has been subdivided into three sections. The main limb zone is located west of the diabase dike. It strikes N70E and dips steeply south. The North Limb and South Limb zones are located east of the diabase dike and do not have a cherty member. The North Limb strikes N70E and is steeply dipping. The South Limb strikes N45E. At the nose of the fold where the two zones meet, they form a pod 340 feet long and 400 feet wide.
