Lithology Comments

Dec 07, 2005 (A Wilson) - The Frances Hill iron formation consists of grey, laminated, locally brecciated sugary chert plus hematite. The outer zone of iron formation consists of well banded chert with intercalated siderite and pyrite, surrounding a central zone of banded and brecciated chert with hematite. Local folding is present but it is uncertain as to whether it is tectonic or primary. Two steeply north dipping faults cut the iron formation and adjacent to these faults the iron formation is brecciated and filled with secondary hematite.

Mineralization Comments

Dec 07, 2005 (A Wilson) - The hematite occurs both as a hard massive, red type and as a soft yellow ore with quartz impurities. The hematite occurs in four seams from 15-30 m long and from 1.5 to 3 m wide. The hard red ore assays 63.10% Fe, 6.34% Si, 0.09% S and 0.27% Ph. Assays of the soft ore averaged: 50.26% Fe, 19.10% Si, 0.11% S and 0.25% Ph.
