Geology Comments

Dec 07, 2005 (A Wilson) - This area is interpreted to be the westward extension of the Rook Lake Deformation Zone. The strike length of the RLDZ is 8 km and the maximum width is 1 km. The RLDZ is centred within a clastic metasedimentary rock sequence which exhibits sheared contacts with felsic intrusive rocks to the north and mafic metavolcanics to the south. The style of deformation and alteration observed in the RLDZ is similar to, yet not as intensely developed as the MDZ. The penetrative foliation strikes 285, dips moderately steeply to the north. Variable trending, moderately to steeply plunging stretchin lineations are commonly obscured or overprinted by crenulation lineattions. The RLDZ possesses structural characteristics similar to the other deformation zones in the belt. Felsic intrusive dikes/sills are common and concentrated within the central and northern parts of the zone, ranging in thickness from centimetres to several hundred metres.
