Geology Comments

Dec 07, 2005 (A Wilson) - The occurrence lies within the southern domain of the Goudreau Lake Deformation Zone. The southern domain is composed of a 70 degree striking, ductile-brittle zone of subparallel, dextral oblique-slip high strain zones developed within strongly altered and deformed felsic to intermediate metavolcanic rocks. The southern domain is roughly 8 km long by 2 km wide. The 'Goudreau Shear' is the dominant structural feature of this domain and it hosts the Magino Mine, Lochalsh Zone and the Island Zone.

Lithology

Lithology Data
Rock Type Rank Composition Texture Relationship
Vein 1 Quartz Host
Mafic massive flow 2 Massive, Schistose Near
Quartz-Feldspar Porphyry 3 Quartz-Feldspar Near

Lithology Comments

Dec 07, 2005 (A Wilson) - The area is comprised of a sequence of mafic to intermediate metavolcanic rocks, intruded by sveral plugs of gabbroic composition. The mafic metavolcanic rocks are moderately schistose in texture. A quartz-feldspar porphry sill/dike up to 9 m wide has been noted at the occurrence. The vein lies at the contact between the two rock types.

Mineralization Comments

Dec 07, 2005 (A Wilson) - Visible gold has been observed in the quartz vein at the occurrence. Grab samples collected from the main vein by Noranda in 1980 returned negligible gold values. One grab sample returned a value of 0.03 oz/t Au. However samples taken from new trenches dug in the area returned values of 0.121 oz/t Au over 13.8 feet.
