Dec 07, 2005 (A Wilson) - The iron ranges exposed in the Goudreau area are presumably a single, once continuous, iron formation that has been folded, faulted and tectonically thickened. Several of the separate iron ranges are considered to be limbless folds. The Michipicoten iron range occurs at the contact betweeen the intermediate to felsic metavolcanics of cycle 1 and the intermediate to mafic metavolcanics of cycle two. The iron formation becomes thinner and the carbonate facies disappers as as one moves eastward towards the Kapuskasing Structural zone and presumably to a deeper crustal intercept of the stratigraphy which is tilted to the west. The occurrence lies within the northern domain of the Goudreau Lake Deformation Zone. This domain is located immediately south of the Maskinonge Lake sock and is composed of brittle to brittle-ductile high-strain zones.

Dec 07, 2005 (A Wilson) - This iron range is poorly exposed and is believed to be the eastward extension of the Rand No. 1 (Morrison No. 4) iron range. The range is cut off to the east by a diabase dike and the western limit is not defined. The iron formation is represented by a gossan on the south shore of Wysor Lake. It has been suggested that the iron range is exposed in a synclinal structure with its nose exposed on the south side of Wysor Lake. Fraleck (1907) suggests that a considerable body of limonite underlies Wysor Lake.
