Geology Comments

Dec 07, 2005 (A Wilson) - The Rutledge (Dreany) Iron Range occurs at the break between intermediate to mafic and intermediate to felsic volcanism of the 2700 Ma volcanic cycle. For most of it's length it occurs at the base of the Dore metasedimentary rocks. This iron range is unusual in that it does not mark the termination of a volcanic cycle. It may consist of two or three subparallel iron formations. Many of the outcrops mapped in the 1950's have presumably been flooded, and the iron range has been geophysically interpreted in this region.
