Access Description: The site is accessible by boat from the boat launches on Kabenung Lake. Magnetic Point is on the north shore of East Kabenung Lake, just west of Magnetic Bay.



Exploration History

1954-55: Algoma Ore Properties: ground geophysical survey, mapping, packsack drilling. 1983: B. Murray - airbone geophysical survey.

Dec 07, 2005 (A Wilson) - The Magnetic Point Iron Range is that part of the iron formation extending from the vicinity of Magnetic Point on the north shore of Kabenung Lake, westward to Carter Lake (local name).

Lithology Comments

Dec 07, 2005 (A Wilson) - The iron fomration consists of lenses and bands of interbedded chert and magnetite lying within fine-grained metasediments. Two bands of iron formation have been mapped. The south band underlies Magnetic Point and continues westward with folded and faulted interruptions to the south shore of Carter Lake. The north band lies approximately 450 m to the north and extends westward for 1500 m.

Dec 07, 2005 (A Wilson) - Average analyses for diamond drill core collected from the iron range are 30.25% total iron, 23.4% soluable iron, 52.9% silica, 0.38% phosphorous, 0.38% titanium and 0.81% sulphur.
