Lithology

Lithology Data
Rock Type Rank Composition Texture Relationship
Oxide Ironstone 1 Oxide-Facies Host
Intermediate lava flow-unsubdivided 2 Intermediate To Felsic Hanging Wall
Intermediate lava flow-unsubdivided 3 Intermediate To Felsic Footwall

Lithology Comments

Dec 07, 2005 (A Wilson) - The iron formation is composed of banded chert with minor interbedded magnetite. Both the hanging wall and footwall of the iron formation are composed of intermediate to felsic metavolcanic rocks that are chloritic and schistose in appearance. Outcrops of the iron formation are iron stained and limonitic gossan is locally present. Mapping by Algoma Ore in 1954 indicated the presence of two iron ranges separated by 500-750 feet of metasedimentary rocks. Airborne magnetic surveys indicate only one continuous band of iron formation, however, later interpretation by International Corona suggested the presence of two parallel conductive horizons.

Mineralization Comments

Dec 07, 2005 (A Wilson) - The west segment of the iron formation reportedly contains siderite pods and a grab sample of the siderite assayed 33% Fe. A grab sample of the magnetite-bearing phase assayed 33.6% Fe.
