Geology Comments

Dec 07, 2005 (A Wilson) - The McKewen Lake Deformation Zone (MLDZ) is a 1.5 km wide, SE-trending zone of strongly deformed mafic to intermediate and felsic to intermediate metavolcanic rocks, which can be traced from McKewen Lake in the northern part of West Township, southeastwards to the northwestern corner of Stover Township. Discrete 120-130 degree trending ductile shear zones are common throughout the MLDZ, but only a small number of shear zones are greater than 1 m.

Lithology Comments

Jul 24, 2013 (A Wilson) - The showings consist of two parallel zones about 45 feet apart containing narrow irregular bifurcating and en echelon quartz stringers up to 4 inches thick. These showings are located on a ridge of intermediate metavolcanic rocks. The units are cross cut by diabase and granitic dikes. Brecciation was observed in some of the veins. The initial trenching was completed along the contact between a diabase dike and silicified intermediate metavolcanic rocks.

Mineralization Comments

Jul 24, 2013 (A Wilson) - Grab samples collected by Cut Thumb Mines in 1980 returned assays ranging from 0.82 oz/t Au over 1.5 ft and 0.24 oz/t Au over 2.5 feet. Several tons of material have been removed from the #2 showing and assays up to 2.9 oz/t Au have been reported. A channel sample collected by Orequest in one of the old trenches returned an assay of 0.074 oz/t Au over 1.3 m. Showing 1 varies from 2-15 feet in width, is about 100 feet long and is cut off at the east end by the diabase dike. Showing 2 varies in width, but is at most 4 feet wide and has been traced intermittently for 100 feet. Grab samples collected from showing 1 by McIntyre Porcupine Mines Ltd had best values of 0.82 oz/t Au over 1.5 feet and 0.24 oz/t au over 2.5 feet. The remaining assays were <0.08 oz/t Au. The best assay from the Showing 2 trenches was 0.06 oz/t. Values from the face of the pit on the edge of the outcrop near showing 2 ranged from 0.05 oz/t Au over 3 ft to 2.98 oz/t au over 3.1 ft. Grab samples collected by J. Barry from showings 1 and 2 returned values ranging from 243 ppb to >10000 ppb Au. A gravimetric assay of JB-71 showed 0.594 oz/t Au.
