Geology Comments

Jul 24, 2013 (A Wilson) - The McKewen Lake Deformation Zone (MLDZ) is a 1.5 km wide, SE-trending zone of strongly deformed mafic to intermediate and felsic to intermediate metavolcanic rocks, which can be traced from McKewen Lake souteastwards to the northwestern corner of Stover Township. Foliation trending 110 to 120 is well developed both as a schistosity and also as tectonic layering. Although discrete 120 to 130-trending ductile shear zones are common throughout the MLDZ, only a small number of shear zones greater than 1 m in width are observed.

Lithology Comments

Jul 24, 2013 (A Wilson) - The occurrence appears to be hosted within quartz stringers and lenses adjacent to a quartz diorite dike. Diamond drilling by Conquest Yellowknife intersected a series of narrow feldspar porphyry dikes within a sequence of intermediate to mafic tuffs. The tuffs are described as crystal tuffs and laminated tuffs.

Mineralization Comments

Jul 24, 2013 (A Wilson) - A grab sample collected by Kent Mines Ltd.in 1955 returned an assay of 0.24 oz/t Au over 6 inches. Assays from the diamond drilling completed by Conquest Resources in 1987 typically were <210 ppb Au.
