Geology Comments

Jul 24, 2013 (A Wilson) - The Loch Lomond Deformation Zone (LLDZ) is defined by an arcuate zone of highly strained rocks (800 to 1600 m wide) and varies in trend from NE through E to SE. The western part is defined by several 1-30 m wide NE-trending ductile shear zones. Within these zones, mafic to intermediate metavolcanic rocks are deformed to chlorite or amphibole schist. Along the southern shore of Loch Locmond, the LLDZ is defined by narrow, east-trending ductile shear zones in amphibolitic metavolcanics and a wide zone of sericite-quartz-pyrite schist south of Loch Lomond. This large zone of ductile shear is greater than 30 m in width and can be traced as far eastward as the Meath Lake Fault.

Lithology

Lithology Data
Rock Type Rank Composition Texture Relationship
Mafic lava flow-unsubdivided 1 Pyrite-Sericite Sheared Host
Intermediate lava flow-unsubdivided 2 Sericitic Sheared Host

Lithology Comments

Jul 24, 2013 (A Wilson) - Narrow zones of disseminated pyrite are found in narrow zones in sheared metavolacnics. The mafic metavolcanics are described as massive to well foliated amphibolite. Intermediate metavolcanics are massive to well foliated, and strike 110 to 140º and fip 62 to 78º south.

Mineralization Comments

Jul 24, 2013 (A Wilson) - Narrow zones of disseminated pyrite are found in narrow zones in quartz-sericite schist. To the west, there are several occurrences of massive to disseminated pyrite and pyrrhotite.
