Geology Comments

Dec 07, 2005 (A Wilson) - The McKewen Lake Deformation Zone (MLDZ) is a 1.5 km wide, SE-trending zone of strongly deformed mafic to intermediate and felsic to intermediate metavolcanic rocks, which can be traced from McKewen Lake in the northern part of West Township, southeastwards to the northwestern corner of Stover Township. Discrete 120-130 degree trending ductile shear zones are common throughout the MLDZ, but only a small number of shear zones are greater than 1 m.

Lithology Comments

Jul 24, 2013 (A Wilson) - The showing consists of a quartz vein which pinches and swells but averages about 8 inches thick. The vein occurs in silicified metavolcanic rocks which appear to be volcaniclastic. At the west end of the trench, diabase is exposed on the north side and a medium-grained granitic rock outcrops on the south side. A felsite dike follows the vein along its northeast side. The vein was traced intermittently along a N60W strike for 200 feet. The vein trends 135º and lies within an intermediate to felsic lapilli to lapilli bomb tuff which has a foliation trend of 126º dipping at 90º. The vein is cut off to the northwest by a diabase dike and appears to disappear to the southeast under the road. A felsite dike, 2.5 feet wide, closely follows the vein at a distance of several feet on its northeast side. This dike was traced to the outcrop on the southeast side of the road where it is only a few inches wide, but no quartz veining was found here. On the west side of the main diabase dike, west of line 36E, the felsite dike recurs at a trend of 115º dipping at 90º for about 100 feet exposed length. The quartz vein also reappears and within a few feet of the diabase contact it joins the south wall of the felsite dike which it follows for the remainder of the exposure. Small gash quartz veinlets were observed here within the felsite dike and the veining is thought to be later than the dike but possibly associated genetically. The diabase dikes cut and displace the veins and are later, and probably not associated with the gold mineralization.

Mineralization Comments

Jul 24, 2013 (A Wilson) - Assays up to 8.92 oz/t Au have been obtained by McIntyre Porcupine Mines Ltd. Samples collected by Cut Thumb Mines returned assays of: 14.2 oz/t Au, 2.6 oz/t Ag over 8 inches; 0.59 oz/t Au, 0.64 oz/t Ag over 1.2 ft; 0.43 oz/t Au, 0.72 oz/t Ag over 1.2 ft and 0.22 oz/t Au over 11 inches. Channel samples by Orequest returned a value of 0.448 oz/t Au over 70 cm southeast along strike from the original showing. A channel sample northwest of the original showing returned an assay of 0.046 oz/t Au over 50 cm. Grab samples collected by Barry in 1992 returned assays of 18.107 oz/t Au, 2.823 oz/t Au and 1.699 oz/t Au. Grab samples taken by Barry in 1992 in the stripped area to the SE of the original showing returned assays ranging from 37 ppb Au to 18.107 oz/t Au.
