Geology Comments

Jul 23, 2013 (A Wilson) - The Dog Lake Deformation Zone (DLDZ) is located in the central part of Riggs and West townships, where it is defined by a 1.5 to 2.0 km wide southeast-trending zone of moderately to strongly strained rocks. The DLDZ is characterized by both ductile and brittle-ductile shear zones which occur in two dominant orientations 90-100 degrees and 110-120 degrees. Shear zones at these orientations within the mafic to intermediate metavolcanic rocks are defined by 1 to 50 m of chlorite-calcite and, rarely, chlorite-iron carbonate schists. Shear zones within feldspar and quartz-feldspar-porphyry intrusions are defined by quartz-sericite schist. Narrow NE and NW trending brittle and brittle-ductile shear zones are also observed with the DLDZ.

Lithology Comments

Jul 23, 2013 (A Wilson) - The property is underlain by sheared, pillowed metavolcanic rocks, tuff breccias, felsic crystal tuffs and feldspar porphyry sills and dikes. All units are cut by northwest trending diabase dikes. The shear zone strikes 110º and dips about 82º to the southwest. Mineralization is hosted within a quartz-carbonate shear zone which roughly parallels the strike of the regional volcanics. Gold occurs in the quartz-rich shear, as well as within weakly pyritized tuffs on either side of the shear zone.

Mineralization Comments

Jul 23, 2013 (A Wilson) - Grab samples collected by M. Shunsby in 1943 assayed 0.035 and 0.29 oz/t Au over 12 inches of the shear zone. A quartz lens located 12 feet to the north assayed 0.65 oz/t Au over 24 inches. Grab samples collected in 1983 by a variety of samplers returned assays of 0.113 oz/t Au, 0.05 oz/t Au, 0.2 oz/t Au, 0.58 oz/t Au over 1 ft, 0.24 oz/t Au over 8 inches. Grab samples collected by the OGS in 1983 returned assays of 2.40 oz/t Au, and other grab samples had assays ranging between 0.11 and 0.46 oz/t Au. The best assays obtained from the drill program completed by New Beginnings Resources was in 1988 returned values of 0.07oz/t Au over 2.5 ft. The best assays were obtained from 35 cm wide zones containing stringers of quartz, carbonate, pyrite and chalcopyrite. Grab samples collected from a trench in 1984 returned values ranging from 0.005 oz/t Au over 3 ft to 0.05 oz/t Au over 2 ft. Samples collected from the same trench by Noranda in 1985 returned values ranging from 0.004 oz/t Au over 1.2 m to 1.42 oz/t Au over 0.15m.
