Geology Comments

Dec 07, 2005 (A Wilson) - The McKewen Lake Deformation Zone (MLDZ) is a 1.5 km wide, SE-trending zone of strongly deformed mafic to intermediate and felsic to intermediate metavolcanic rocks, which can be traced from McKewen Lake in the northern part of West Township, southeastwards to the northwestern corner of Stover Township. Discrete 120-130 degree trending ductile shear zones are common throughout the MLDZ, but only a small number of shear zones are greater than 1 m.

Lithology Comments

Jul 24, 2013 (A Wilson) - The vein is 10-16 inches in width and pinches and swells along its length. The vein is subparallel to a 50 to 200 cm wide fine-grained felsic dike and is enclosed within altered, silicified mafic metavolcanics.

Mineralization Comments

Jul 24, 2013 (A Wilson) - Grab samples collected in 1988 by Orequest from the same vicinity assayed 0.448 oz/t Au. Grab samples from this vein returned values of 1.17 oz/t Au and 2.394 oz/t Au. Other grabs returned assays of 144.67 g/t Au, 0.677 oz/t Au and 0.037 oz/t Au. T. Nicholson collected samples yielding 4.22 oz/t Au from quartz veins. A grab sample collected by Wesdome Mines assayed 658.48 g/t Au. A grab sample collected by Strike Minerals in 2008 assayed 191.32 g/t Au.
