Geology Comments

Nov 10, 2010 (A Wilson) - The occurrence lies within the Eastern Domain of the Goudreau Lake Deformation Zone. The GLDZ is up to 4.5 km in width and strikes in a gentle sigmoid-form for at least 30 km, subparallel to the stratigraphy and the regional foliation. In the immediate Goudreau-Lochalsh area, the GLDZ is coincidentwith a major contact between Cycle 2 and Cycle 3 volcanics. There is a strong structural control of the gold-bearing quartz veins systems within each of the 070-075 striking high-strain zones within the deformation zone. The Eastern Domain of the GLDZ is 9 km long and 2 km wide and contains narrow brittle and brittle-ductile high-strain zones displaying dextral, oblique slip displacement. Mineral lineations at the Cline Lake area have a consistent shallow plunge to the east and become moderately to steeply plunging in the Godin Lake area. Within the eastern domain, high-strain zones (as well as laminated, quartz-tourmaline and/or quartz-Fe-carbonate veins, fractures and felsic porphyry dikes) are dominantly parallel or at low angles to the east-striking regional foliation. The eastern domain is truncated on the west by the NW-trending Maskinonge Lake Fault.

Lithology Comments

Dec 07, 2005 (A Wilson) - The occurrence is hosted by an assemblage of sheared, carbonate altered mafic to intermediate tuffs and pillowed metavolcanics. All units are intruded by a series of narrow quartz and quartz-feldspar porphyry dikes and sills. Many of the porphyry units display moderate deformation. Quartz veins are prominent and are found subparallel to the foliation.

Mineralization Comments

Sep 23, 2016 (A Wilson) - A grab sample collected from a quartz vein by the OGS in 1978 returned an assay of 0.43 oz.//t Au and 0.15 oz/t Ag. The best assay obtained by Erie Canadian Mines in 1938 was 1.6 oz./t Au over 0.9 m. Assays from diamond drill core returned values of 0.36 oz./t Au over 5 ft., 0.04 oz./t Au and 0.16% Cu over .8 feet and 0.21 oz./t Au over 6 ft. from the 1980 drill programme of Vega Gold Mines Ltd. The calculated tonnage and grade of the bulk sample extracted in 1999 was 3090 tonnes with an average grade of 5 grams. Drilling highlights from the 2010 program include 10.61 g/t Au over 4.40 m in PM-AZ-10-10, 17.15 g/t Au over 2.40m in PM-AZ-10-18, and 5.94 g/t Au over 6.31 m in PM-AZ-10-20, 34.20 g/t over 2.78 m including 122.64 g/t Au over 0.70 m in PM-AZ-10-27, 11.37 g/t Au over 2.8 m in PM-AZ-10-23 and 9.18 g/t Au over 2.20 m in PM-AZ-10-24.

Site Visit Information

Date: Nov 10, 2000

Geologist: A Wilson

Notes: Strongly deformed and altered, massive to pillowed mafic metavolcanic rocks and a quartz-feldspar porphyry dike host lenticular quartz veins within a 30 m wide by 100 m long, dextral high-strain zone. A peripheral zone of chlorite-calcite-pyrite alteration grades inward toward the mineralized vein to a (Fe-carbonate)-oyrite-sericite alteration. At the time of the last visit, the pit was one-third filled with water and the site had undergone rehabilitation during the summer of 2000.
