Geology Comments

Dec 07, 2005 (A Wilson) - The Cradle Lakes Deformation Zone is at least 5 km in length and rouchly 1-2 km wide, but may be up to 10 km in total length. The CLDZ is subparalle to stratigraphy and occurs largely within fedlspar-crystal tuffs, which in many places are difficult to distinguish fromthe cradle Lakes stock, a feldspar porphyry intrusion adjacent to and partially within the CLDZ. The CLDZ contains a large, east-striking high stain zone that is up to 40 m wide and has been traced for several hundred metres along strike. Supracrustal rocks in the immediate Goudreau-Lochalsh district consist of cycle 2 felsic to intermediate, pyroclastic metavolcanics which are capped by pyrite-bearing ironstone. To the north are pillowed , massive and schistose, mafic to intermediate metavolcanics and minor intercalations of mafic pyroclastic rocks of cycle 3. Several medium to coarse grained quartz dioritie to dioritie sills and/or dikes intrude all of the metavolcanic rocks. Along the northern margin of the supracrustal sequence, separating cycle 3 mafic metavolcanic rocks from the external granitoids, are thinly-bedded metasedimentary rocks with iminor intercalations of chert-magnetite ironstone.

Lithology Comments

Dec 07, 2005 (A Wilson) - The occurrence is described as consisting of sugary-textured, rusty quartz veins enclosed in mafic schist.

Mineralization Comments

Dec 07, 2005 (A Wilson) - In 1926 an assay of $10.40 per ton of gold (0.5 oz/t Au) was obtained from a grab sample from a quartz vein. A grab sample collected in 1986 by Mascot Gold Mines returned values of 0.038 oz/t Au from quartz/calcite boulders.
