Location Method: Data Compilation

Access Description: Access is via an 18 km all-weather gravel road that turns off of highway 519 just west of the town of Dubreuilville. Dubreuilville is on highway 519, 44 km east of the junction of Highway 17 and 519. From the junctio of the old and new Goudreau Roads, drive east for approximately 2 km. The iron formation outcrops on the north side of the road adjacent to a small pond.

Geology Comments

Dec 07, 2005 (A Wilson) - The deposit lies within the Northern Domain of the Goudreau Lake Deformation Zone. The GLDZ is up to 4.5 km in width and strikes in a gentle sigmoid-form for at least 30 km, subparallel to the stratigraphy and the regional foliation. In the immediate Goudreau-Lochalsh area, the GLDZ is coincident with a major contact between Cycle 2 and Cycle 3 volcanics. There is a strong structural control of the gold-bearing quartz veins systms within each of the 070-075 striking high-strain zones within the deformation zone. The Northern Domain of the GLDZ is located immediately south of the Maskinonge Lake stock and is composed of brittle to brittle-ductile high-strain zones oriented at high angles to the 70 degree striking regional foliation These narrow brittle to ductile high-strain zones are up to tens of metres wide and may contain concordant quartz veins, and millimetre- to centimetre-scale brittle shears or fractures. The NE striking high-strain zones display sinistral, oblique-slip displacement, while the NW-striking shears display dextral, olblique-slip displacement.

Lithology

Lithology Data
Rock Type Rank Composition Texture Relationship
Carbonate Ironstone 1 Carbonate Facies Host
Intermediate Tuff 2 Chloritized, Sericitized Tuff Footwall

Lithology Comments

Dec 07, 2005 (A Wilson) - The occurrence lies close to the nose of a folded carbonate-facies iron formation. The iron formation is underlain by intermediate lapilli tuffs that have been altered to chlorite and sericite and/or chloritoid. Quartz veins are milky white to clear in colour and vary up to 6 cm wide and several meters long. The veins are restricted to the iron formation. The iron formation contains a well developed siderite and pyrite zone with minor magnetite at the stratigraphic base of the iron formation.

Mineralization Comments

Dec 07, 2005 (A Wilson) - A drill hole completed by Algoma Steel in 1954 returned 2.7 g/t Au over 30.5 m. A drill hole completed by Canamax in 1983 intersected gold bearing iron formation returning a value of 18.65 g/t Au over 1 m. The iron formation is described as laminated with iron oxides with a few feet of pyrite and siderite occurring below the banded silica.

Notes: The pyrite-bearing ironstone contains pervasive Fe-carbonate which may be of either primary, syn-pyrite ironstone origin or secondayr, hydrothermal origin. Ther may be more than one generation of Fe-carbonate present in this occurrence. The tuffaceous rocks in the vicinity of the ironstone are strongly sideritized. Gold mineralization appears to be controlled by microscopic, crosscutting fractures in the ironstone. Narrow quartz veinlets crosscut the ironstone but gold assays do not appear to correlate with them. The felsic tuffs are cut by numerous narrow, discrete shears exhibiting dextral displacement and which are subparallel to the apparent bedding in the tuffs.
