Dec 07, 2005 (A Wilson) - The Rutledge Iron Range, North Evans Creek Iron Range and the Brant Iron Range are all part of the same formation. It occurs at the bread between intermediate to mafic and intermediate to felsic volcanism of the 2700 Ma cycle. This iron formation occurs at the base of the Dore metasedimentary rocks which are the stratigraphic equivalent to the intermediate to felsic volcanic rocks of the 2700 Ma volcanic cycle.

Dec 07, 2005 (A Wilson) - The iron formation is compositionally distinct from the Michipicoten type iron formation. The Dreany consits of thin bedded chert, magnetite, wacke and mior sulphide. The sulphide content may be higher in the western than the eastern portion of this iron range. The iron formation can be followed geophysically through both Finan and Dunphy townships.
