Access Description: The site is accessible via highway 519 (Dubreuilville Highway) from highway 17 and then via the all weather new Goudreau Road. The Dreany Iron Range crosses the new Goudreau Road approximately 3 km from the cemetary. Access to the outcrops is most easily made by overland traverse from the railway crossing. Alternatively, the outcrops can be accessed by traverse from the main haul road heading north east out of the Dubreuil Forest Products site.

Geology Comments

Dec 07, 2005 (A Wilson) - The Rutledge Iron Range, North Evans Creek Iron Range and the Brant Iron Range are all part of the same formation. It occurs at the bread between intermediate to mafic and intermediate to felsic volcanism of the 2700 Ma cycle. This iron formation occurs at the base of the Dore metasedimentary rocks which are the stratigraphic equivalent to the intermediate to felsic volcanic rocks of the 2700 Ma volcanic cycle.

Lithology

Lithology Data
Rock Type Rank Composition Texture Relationship
Intermediate Tuff 1 Intermediate To Mafic Tuff Footwall
Claystone 2 Argillite Footwall
Magnetite Ironstone 3 Magnetite-Facies Host

Lithology Comments

Dec 07, 2005 (A Wilson) - The iron formation is compositionally distinct from the Michipicoten type iron formation. The Dreany consits of thin bedded chert, magnetite, wacke and mior sulphide. The sulphide content may be higher in the western than the eastern portion of this iron range. The iron formation can be followed geophysically through both Finan and Dunphy townships.
