Lithology Comments

Apr 29, 2019 (B Nelson) - The occurrence is classed as a 'polymetallic vein.' Giguere (1975, pp 26-27) writes that 'a copper-iron sulphide showing was noted on Blanket Island, a small islet north of the west end of Whiskey Island, near Rossport. The showing is an east-striking calcite sulphide vein that cuts the Rove shale along the south shore of the island for its entire length. The vein is about 1 m wide at the east end of the island, narrowing to 15 cm at the west end. The sulphide zone disappears under water at both ends (Giguere, 19750.

Mineralization Comments

Apr 29, 2019 (B Nelson) - Sulphide minerals comprise 50 to 70 percent of the vein material. Vein material is calcite, marcasite, and a small amount of very fine-grained chalcopyrite. Analyses of grab samples by the Mineral Resources Branch of the Ontario Division of Mines indicated trace amounts of gold and silver, and 0.01 percent each of copper, lead, molybdenum and nickel (Giguere, 1975).
