Geology Comments

Dec 07, 2005 (B Nelson) - Carter (1982) shows the area as being underlain by metamosphosed mafic intrusive rocks along with mafic metavolcanic rocks and granitic intrusives present. A major northwest trending fault transects the area. A quartz stockwork is exposed in a creek bed and is up to 10 m to 15 m wide. Quartz veins are crosscut by jasper-rich veinlets and fractures suggesting a complex multi-deformational history. Quartz +/- calcite veins are present and contain up to 2% disseminated pyrite and minor chalcopyrite. A pink to reddish granite intrudes the mafic host rock. The stockwork is hosted by a medium grained, mafic, chloritic rock which contains epidote stringers. It was unclear whether the host rock was a metavolcanic rock or intrusive rock. In sections the host rocks have been highly silicified. The quartz stockwork zone appears to be hosted by a fault trending 310 degrees northwest and exposed for a distance of up to 450 m.
