Access Description: The prospect is located on the southern shore of Big Duck Lake, 21 km north of Schreiber (claims TB646717 and TB646718, claim map G-606, Pays Plat Lake). Easiest access is gained by aircraft to Big Duck Lake. A drill trail from the Winston Lake Mine also leads to Big Duck Lake. The showings are located approximately 30 m and 170 m south of the lakeshore.

Exploration History

1913: L.H. Estell staked the 'Brown' claim, TB 1911, which was patented in 1917. 1916: Contiguous claims TB 3144 and 3145 were staked by L.H. Estell. 1920: Surface trenching and pitting were carried out. 1923: The occurrence was restaked by L.H. Estell and W.J. Lynch. Surface work continued. 1935: The property was partially restaked by A.L. Kemp and W.M. Hay. However, the claims lapsed in 1938. 1946: Patented claim TB1911 came open for staking. 1951: Former claim TB1911 was staked by A. Heffren as TB 42288. 1952: Contiguous claims were staked by G. Black. 1954: J. Lang staked TB48853 and transferred all interest to E.P. McDonough who then transferred all interest to Lanson Holdings Limited. Lanson then conducted a geophysical survey (type unknown). S. Knox staked TB51474. 1955: All interest in TB51474 was transferred to Stratmat Limited. A resistivity survey was conducted. 16 diamond drill holes, totalling 2065 m were drilled. 1960: KRNO Mines Ltd. drilled two x-ray holes totalling 37.2 m. The claim lapsed. 1961-66: The occurrence was restaked by various individuals. No work was recorded. 1982: R. Szyda staked claims TB646717 and 646718 and transferred all interest to Corporation Falconbridge Copper. 1983: An airborne geophysical (mag and EM) survey was conducted. 1983-84: Various geological, geophysical and geochemical surveys were conducted and surface work undertaken.

Geology Comments

Dec 07, 2005 (B Nelson) - The Estell A vein is exposed over a length of 80 feet in a trench about 100 feet south of the shore of Big Duck Lake. Near the west end it strikes S65-70 degrees E. It is arcuate in shape, and curves such that, near its east extremity, it strikes easterly. It dips 60-65 degrees N, and ranges in thickness from about 10 to 20 feet. It is typically a sugary quartz vein. Near its centre, about 40 feet west of the trench, the vein is cut by a fault striking N30 degrees E. Along this fault, the vein suffered a righthand displacement of 20-30 feet. The Estell B occurrence is located approximately 200 m southeast from the Falconbridge Copper camp. The geology consists of mafic metavolcanic flows and tuff. The metavolcanics are well foliated, generally striking west to 320 degrees. A quartz vein striking 295 degrees and dipping 68 degrees N was observed on the shore of Big Duck Lake at Falconbridge's camp. The vein had a maximum width of 25 cm. The footwall consists of a highly foliated mafic metavolcanic, possibly a tuff. Sulphide rich seams, sheared metavolcanics and quartz veins are observed within the shear zone which is up to 2 m wide. The quartz vein strikes 325 degrees and dips 60-70 degrees N. Up to 3 parallel quartz veins are likely related to shearing on the emplacement of a felsic intrusive. The hanging wall consists of a hornblende-biotite schist, likely representing altered metavolcanics.

Lithology Comments

Dec 07, 2005 (B Nelson) - The Estelle A vein exhibits a prominent sheeted appearance because of the presence of well-developed book and ribbon structures. The books and ribbons are made up of hornblende schist, in places highly altered to mica and chlorite.
